Media Concept #1 - Fast Food Media Vs. Fast Food Reality

This video showed how food product photos differ from the reality of what we as consumers receive from these fat food establishments. In this video, the host went to multiple fast food stores to see if the food would look like the advertisements. All of the food when it was first presented didn’t look like the advertisement. Although, with the second try most stores could produce a better-looking product none of them looked like the advertisement. This is because all media is constructed. Food photography is a difficult industry because you must fake almost everything. Ice cream is made of mashed potatoes and paint can be used to make colors more vibrant. With food photography, there is heavy photo editing along with things added to make food look better. All of the added products used to make food look better is why food product photos like in this video are a perfect example of how all media is constructed to convey a false reality.

Media Concept #3 - Girls Like You Music Video

After listening and watching this music video “Girls Like You”, I enjoyed it and I found it enjoyable and such a good song to listen to. This music video became listenable everywhere, even in the radio cycles. I liked how there were many female celebrities in this music video but I got confused why they showcased many female celebrities in the video. Then, I related this to the third media concept, which states that, “Media are commercial enterprises”. That means the media exists to make money. This video hits 2.8 billion views and it has many likes and what that means the producer of the song gained a lot of money because of the number of views. The more subscribers and views the video gains, the more money the producer gains. As we can see this music video became listenable and watchable in many apps such as YouTube and in radio cycles and by including many female celebrities in it and especially Cardi B, which is the most famous rapper, they actually helped in increasing the amount of viewers for this video because these celebrities have their own fans that like to watch them. Also, the guitar skills and the visuals also were good tools for attracting people to watch the video. I would say the singer has his own popularity as well, he became more famous after this song

Media Concept #5 - Pizza Nova Commercial

In the Pizza Nova ad, the people eat the pizza and sing the ionic song from the company. This is clearly their own code and convention because if we know pizza ads, we will recognize that song (because I know I definitely did when I first heard it). To make it a pizza advertisement, we clearly need pizza being shown, consumed and perhaps an establishment shown too, with a location, number and so called “experts” speaking. All of these things were shown which indicates immediately it was indeed a pizza advertisement. They showed happy customers eating the pizza and clearly looking impressed, showing they are trying to market their product in a good light, and make it look better than other Canadian chains like Pizza Pizza. They mention the use of fresh ingredients as well, showing their willingness to be competitive.
