History assignment
The article “the big gains for women’s rights in the Middle East, explained,” explains how women have acted and factored that might have favored recognition of women rights in countries with high percentage of Muslims. The article was written by Benjamin G. Bishin and Feryal M. Cherif and published in The Washington Post on July 23, 2018. The article is important to me because I am a Muslim Saudi resident who is really agree that women has rights exactly as men has rights as gender equality.
Bishin and Cherif were motivated by the policy in Saudi Arabia to allow or permit women to drive. In Saudi Arabia women were not supposed to drive. The right to drive by women rekindled analysis of other rights women have been able to enjoy contrary to the traditional setting and the reasons for the growing phenomenon of women rights in Middle East and North Africa. The article points to the struggle women have gone through over time to achieve the freedom they are enjoying at the moment. Women segregation on various issues such education, employment and capacity to own property in the Islamic countries has been a contagious issue. Can you highlight the 5w’s each one with different color, please? Who, what, why, where, when
The main point of the article was to inform people on the challenges Muslim women have faced until the 21st century which are not common in other countries. Other than the right to drive for Saudi Arabia women, Bishin and Cherif investigate other rights muslim women have been denied and the reasons why countries are currently enacting gender sensitive policies. There are so many laws that have been put in place to accelerate women rights such as gender quota in North African countries, right to pass citizenship to children by their mothers, and punishment of male rapists, and laws against domestic violence. The authors investigate why countries with Muslim majorities have lagged behind in advancing women rights and the reasons why it is happening now. Islamic teachings uphold patriarchal views which facilitated inequality between women and men. Sunni and Shiite Islamic groups allow for women to inherit, acquire and manage property, although some other rights have been limited. Factors contributing to increasing women rights are education, employment and women activism. As opposed to what the book notes, women now can access education and occupy formal jobs like men and women advocacy supported by European countries has also cultivated in women being granted their basic rights. As the book documents, women core rights were not permitted, although the article notes the steps the Muslim dominated countries have taken in increasing women rights especially through education, employment and advocacy that has motivated many men to support women in pursuit for their freedom.

And the part of:
But if religion is a primary factor, then individuals and statesmen should conform to Islam’s tenets — even where Islamic texts call for equality between the sexes
Please I want it to be consistence and with Islam not against Islam.
