Multimedia Resource Project (MRP)
FAM 333 – Jacob Esplin
Multimedia Resource Project (MRP)
For this project you will select a technology or social media topic about which you will develop an informative resource for a specific audience
Your audience must be one of the following:
Educators
Parents
Families = geared toward both parents and children of varying ages and focused on all family member
Your topic can span the range of technology issues that impact children and/or families
See notes below for more some ideas.
Perhaps you want to teach educators the value of and how to use a certain technology resource in their classroom. Maybe you want to create a step-by-step guide for parents about monitoring a specific social media platform (including evidence as to WHY they should monitor). Perhaps your focus is informing families how certain technologies can enhance family communication. Maybe you have an idea about a new smartphone app that will provide parents with information about healthy feeding practices of children under age 3. Maybe you want to help parents recently released from prison find employment and market themselves as professionally as possible. Is there a social media app or other online tool teachers can use to boost student engagement? The key is to make sure whatever topic you select INTERESTS YOU! While this assignment will require reading course materials and demonstrating mastery of course content - it should also be enjoyable for you!
There are topical resources provided in the "brainstorming" folder below to help you develop your topic idea. I am happy to discuss potential topics with you.

Multimedia Resource Project (MRP)
Your resource you will develop can be in one of the following formats:
Video(s)
Brochure/magazine = you can create these in MS Word/Publisher or Apple Pages
Free website = can be made with Weebly or Wix, for example. Don't let this idea intimidate you - many students have found these platforms extremely easy and convenient to work with
New app development = you don't have to actually develop the app, but you could develop a detailed plan for an app that would meet some need of educators, parents, or families. Have you ever thought, ”There should be an app for that"? - if so, now is your chance to explore and develop your idea!

Other ("other" ideas must be approved by the instructor)
NO PowerPoint, Keynote, or Prezi presentations will be approved as your “resource” project.
The reason for this is because Phase 5 of your project is to present your resource to the class and you will create a presentation to do this.
Multimedia Resource Project (MRP)
This project has five phases that have been spread out across the weeks of this course
The idea is that the components will build on each other to create a quality resource for youth, families, or educators
This is a substantial assignment, but I want you to have fun with it! Choose a topic area that interests you and that you think is an important issue for families and schools to know more about
MRP: Phase 1
Topic selection
This may look like the easiest phase of the project…but it is the most important!
You will identify a technology or social media related topic AND an audience (educators, parents, families)
You will post this through the Phase 1 Discussion Board on Canvas (see rubric)
Be sure to include all of the information required that is listed in the instructions where you will submit this phase
This phase is worth 15 points
Due 9/8 @ 5:00 pm in the Week 2 Module

MRP: Phase 2
Article List with Brief Description
Your resource MUST be evidence-based (that means based on empirical research that has already been published)
You will locate and briefly summary five peer-reviewed empirical articles (published 2010-present)
Must address your topic or provide rationale/support for why your resource is needed
Your article submission will list each article reference in correct APA format followed by a few sentences summarizing what each artcile is about/what the researchers found
A few sentences for each will suffice, but must be concise and accurate (see rubric)
This phase is worth 30 points
Due 9/29 @ 5:00 pm in the Week 4/5 Module
MRP: Phase 2

Example of a Brief Article Summary
You will do this for each of your 5 empirical research articles that you choose to use
Due 9/29 @ 5:00 pm in the Week 4/5 Module
MRP: Phase 3
Research and Theoretical Background Paper
You will write a paper summarizing the research you found in your articles from Phase 2 that supports your resource as well as the bioecological foundation of your resource
Paper must:
Summarize at least five empirical articles
Describe the bioecological foundation (with appropriate citations/references)
Be in APA format and contain at least 3 pages of body text
Papers will be submitted as a Turnitin assignment on Canvas (see rubric)
This phase is worth 75 points

Quality content (grammar, punctuation, citations, etc.) (see rubric)
This phase is worth 100 points
Due 11/10 @ 5:00 pm in the Week 10/11 Module

MRP: Phase 5
Class Presentation
Post a presentation (PowerPoint, Keynote, or Prezi) to the class discussion board with the following:
