Beliefs about Multicultural Education

It is an opportunity to learn about other people’s culture and traditions.

Learning the history of other cultures enables students to value other people's traditions.

Both teachers and students must prepare themselves for the challenges encountered when interacting in a multicultural setting.

My Education Philosophy Statement

My goal of teaching multicultural education is to practice and share cultural beliefs and traditions. As individuals, this is an opportunity to learn about our cultural backgrounds and becoming aware of the different values in each ethnic group. We can admire our ethnic cultures to continue our existence in the diverse country. It is our duty as teachers to educate the new generation on multiversity to empower them to respect other individuals irrespective of their color or race. The teaching curriculum will be developed based on student interests to stimulate the passion of learning. The teacher will include all the students in the learning process by designing curriculum that is relevant to everyone. The multicultural education will enable the learners to develop a critical evaluation of the society as a system (Wilson, 2012).

Ways to Incorporate the Philosophy

Developing a theme for every month. For example, Cinco De Mayo is known to be a proud day for the Mexicans as they celebrate the triumph over the French. Despite being less equipped, the Mexicans were victorious in the battle.

The black history month will be used to educate the students about the famous African American leaders.

This approach will be used to enjoy the different activities for the different ethnic groups (Sleeter & Carmona, 2016).

Ways to Incorporate the Philosophy (cont.).

Embracing different languages; Today’s classroom are multicultural thus it is important to integrate the different languages (Sleeter & Carmona, 2016). The instructor will research about the learner second language to facilitate ease in knowing how to teach English. The classrooms will integrate the student's native language to create familiarity with different languages.

Cultural dressing- families will be invited during cultural days to share custom dresses and teach their importance. Besides, the learners will be educated on which occasions to wear the clothing and an explanation of their meanings.

Obstacles likely to be encountered

Involving the parents. Parent involvement in the learning process can be challenging (Peters-Davis & Shultz, 2015). However, this will be dealt with by developing a personal relationship with the parents to educate them on the importance of creating a multicultural lesson. The instructor will develop communication channels such as such as letters to address any issues. Besides, the teacher will foster an anti-bias environment to create harmony.

Obstacles likely to be encountered (Cont.)

Domination of a specific teaching style. Within the multicultural setting, the learners might absorb information through the use of different styles (Peters-Davis & Shultz, 2015). As the students are accustomed to a certain teaching style, it might take time for them to accommodate something new. Therefore, the instructor will offer all the learning styles (visual and auditory) to ensure they grasp the content.
