Formal Write Up #3
Write out a full solution to a related rates task: ● Either create your own task or find a related rates task that interests you ● Write out a full solution to the task. This should include
○ A full description of the problem to be solved ○ A description of each of the quantities involved ○ A picture/diagram the models the situation, with the quantities from the previous
part labeled ○ Clearly labeled objective and constraint functions, along with an explanation of how
you decided what the objective and constraint functions would be. ○ Step-by-step solutions to solve the task now that you have an objective function and
constraint function identified Write out a full solution to an optimization task:

Extra Credit: Write a (short) paper reflecting on how calculus relates to your area of interest. This paper will be two-pages (minimum) double-spaced with twelve point font. Two main questions your paper should answer are:
● What is your area of interest? This is ideally whatever your major and/or career aspirations are that require you to take a calculus class. Take a few paragraphs to explain what that area is and why you want to pursue it.
● How does calculus relate to your area of interest? This can be answered in a few different ways:
○ Find a problem relevant to your area of interest that utilizes calculus in some way. Walk the reader through a solution and describe how calculus is involved.
○ Find a concept that is present in both calculus and your area of interest. What are the different ways that concept shows in your area of interest?
