The Civil Rights Movement

The civil rights movement was a struggle by Africa Americans for social justice in 1950s and 1960s. The Civil War had seen the end of slavery but did not end racial segregation and discrimination against African Americans. Black people continued to experience significant effect of racism particularly in the South (Bloom, 2019). The movement was based on decades-long efforts by the blacks to end slavery and resist racial oppression. The movement held non-violent protests that broke the racial segregation in public facilities and made substantial steps towards equal right legislation (Andrews, Beyerlein & Tucker Farnum, 2016).

I chose this topic because it provides significant insight on how Black American contributed to social justice in the country. The topic provides a lot of information concerning where we have come as a country. This can help us as a country to address the patterns of racism that still exist in the society. I believe that the movement played a significant role in the expansion of inclusiveness of civil rights. Some of the rights that most people enjoy today can be attributed to the efforts put in by this movement. I know that the movement was successful in improving the status of the black community.

Through this research, I hope to learn the main purpose of the movement. I also hope to learn the impacts of racial discrimination that the black community experienced during the time (Riches, 2017). In addition, this research will help me to learn more about the leaders of the movement and explore its timelines. By the end of this research I hope to gain significant insights on the steps made towards achieving social justice as a result of the movement.
