Currently philosophy is often thought of as a field of study or a course one must take to earn a degree in college. Tell me how you would define philosophy and outline its possible uses in our personal and collective lives.

Module Reflection Paper Guidelines and Grading

For Modules 1 – 6, you will be asked to complete a paper will encapsulate the main ideas from that module. These reflections will be short straightforward writing assignments in response to a given prompt.

Format

Please see additional “Module Reflection Format” document for detailed instructions on how to write these assignments.

Grading

Each of these module reflections will be worth 8.33% of your overall grade (6 total x 8.33% each = 50% of your final grade). In these projects I am looking for you to demonstrate that you do the following three things:

1) Read, understand, and apply the reading materials for that module, in addition to any video lectures or additional materials (this means you should include explicit reference to the concepts and ideas from the readings, either via direct quotes or correct use of vocabulary, etc.). Please note that I am looking for explicit reference to the readings and not the Powerpoints – the Powerpoints should only be used to supplement the firsthand texts and your understanding of them.

2) Spend time formulating your own reflective thoughts and opinions on the materials and assignment prompts

3) Review your project prior to submission to check for grammatical errors, coherency, consistency, etc.

Grading Rubric

Please review the “Rubric” attached to each of the module reflection assignments for details on how your responses will be graded. This rubric will tell you exactly what I am looking for when I grade these assignments. In response to your submissions, I will likely refer you back to this rubric for questions regarding your grade.
