Based on my in-class experiences and readings for this module, I prefer cognitive-behavioral as a therapy option compared to the other theoretical orientations. Cognitive-behavioral takes a practical approach towards solving problems aiming at changing thinking patterns that are behind people’s difficulties thereby changing ones feelings. I prefer cognitive-behavioral because of its wide range of uses starting from enhancing sleeping difficulties, relationship problems to curing anxiety and depression. It changes people’s attitude which is one of the most important factors in therapy. It deals with emotional problems by studying a person’s behavior. I prefer cognitive-behavioral therapy because it takes a short time to deliver a result, approximately 10 months. During the therapy, the client and the therapist work together to understand the client’s problems: which makes the therapy more involving. It introduces patients to principles they can apply whenever they need to, which last an entire lifetime. Also, I prefer cognitive-behavioral therapy because it’s like a combination of psychotherapy and behavioral therapy. However, it emphasizes the importance of the personal meaning we place on things and how thinking patterns begin in childhood, which is not the case for psychotherapy and behavioral therapy. In cognitive-behavioral therapy, the therapist customizes the therapy to the specific needs and personality of the patient. The form of therapy has the advantage of using therapeutic time most efficiently. The therapist actively takes part in the sessions as the client grasps the principles which eventually, ensure the client feels encouraged to continue working independently. At the end of this course, I need to start giving life meaning and purpose. Also I need to do more acts of kindness to make other people’s lives better. I need to do less of bad habits that destroy my emotional health. Lastly, I need to stop destroying relationships by learning how to be present and in the moment (Clark, 2004).
