The BRACE framework stands for Building Resilience Against Climate Effects, and it is a five-step framework which allows health officials to develop strategies so that communities can prepare for climate changes and its effects (“CDC’s”, 2019). One thing that climate change effects is the air quality. When the weather is too warm for the time, it can throw off the quality of the air, or the allergens in the air. This can affect the health of a population, especially for those who are susceptible to respiratory diseases such as asthmatics or COPD patients. If we know this is an issue, we can begin to anticipate problems that may be caused by low air quality, such as an increase in hospitalization due to respiratory distress, or an increase in asthma diagnosis. Anticipating is the first step of the BRACE framework, which leads to us being able to project the disease burden, and then assess possible public health interventions to ease this burden. Not only should we be implementing things to reduce the disease burden, but what can be done to better the air quality, to prevent the disease burden from the very beginning. It all leads back to climate change, which is affecting the air quality.

Describe at a minimum of one population health effect associated with climate change.

One would be the effect of air quality on the populations health especially with people living in close proximity to smog, elderly and young people who are developing in this type of environment where they are breathing in dangerous gases. In the short term this leads to irritation of the eyes, nose and throat, also leads to bronchitis and pneumonia. In the long term this leads to more serious health effects like serious lung diseases, asthma, chronic cough, lung cancer and even heart attacks.

Define the BRACE Framework advanced by the CDC

BRACE stands for Building Resilience Against Climate Effects. This framework is pretty much defined as a five step process that helps and allows health and government officials to create strategies to combat the health effects of climate change by basically making different programs in communities around the country that anticipate and intervene in these problems in the environment.

Provide at least one mitigation strategy for the effect you have discussed using the BRACE approach.

The strategy I would use for the effect I discussed with air quality would use step 1 of the BRACE approaches strategy which is  Anticipate Climate Impacts and Assess Vulnerabilities by Identifying the scope of climate impacts, associated potential health outcomes, and populations and locations vulnerable to these health impacts (CDC, 2019). This strategy would help find people most vulnerable to bad air quality and find their locations which then we could try to reduce the pollution in those areas helping the local population.
