Abstract:

The article discusses the criticism to the Standford Prison Experiment (SPE) one of psychology's most famous experiments. The claim of Philip Zimbardo, the experiment's lead investigator, that in certain situations, good people readily turn bad. Also tackled are the critics to the study, despite its popular use to explain modern-day atrocities.

The article presents a comparison of a study conducted by psychologist Solomon Asch in the 1950s and the study of Kazuo Mori and Miho Arai regarding public judgment on lengths of lines in which Asch used confederates while Mori and Arai adapted the Manipulation of Overlapping Rivalrous Images (MORI) technique.
