Exposing Sustainability Myths in Business

Myth

Sustainable actions mean loss of market share.

As an example, a service company decides to go “lean and green.” It reduces or changes many amenities it had always offered. And the amenities were one of the keys to the company’s success. But with these changes, the customers leave in droves.

Bust this Myth

What sustainable decision could this company have made to bust this myth?

Busted

A better decision would have been to gradually introduce new “green” amenities and find ways to make the supply chain of established amenities more sustainable. When the demand for sustainable amenities takes over, the older amenities could be phased out.
