Clinical Issue

Vaccination is important in promoting health of general public.

Senior citizens are comprise one of vulnerable populations.

Influenza vaccine is essential in controlling flu virus infections.

These factors make the discussion of the topic critical (Bryant & Schiavenato, 2016).

The clinical inquiry is meant to address a matter of concern in the health of individuals in the society. It examines a particular issue and asks critical questions that help in comprehension of requisite practices. Vaccination against disease conditions is a critical part of healthcare. This entails administration of substances that give protection against certain conditions. Seniors are generally vulnerable due to decline in their physical capabilities. They are continually vulnerable to risks such as disease which makes it vita that there is ample focus on the subject of vaccination of the group. The inquiry looks at the impact of influenza vaccine in reducing incidence of pneumonia (Bryant & Schiavenato, 2016).

PICOT Statement

The population (P) under focus comprise senior citizens.

The intervention (I) is administration of in influenza vaccines.

The comparison (C) is lack of vaccination.

The outcome (O) is reduction of risk of pneumonia.

The period (T) involved is the flu season.

The PICOT statement portrays the clinical subject of interest and the considerations that are involved. It provides the whole idea of the inquiry and helps focus the topic on a specific area. It is a comprehensive summary of the aspects being explored.

Development of PICOT

First step is determination of clinical issue of interest.

The issue is aligned with appropriate population and intervention to ensure relevance is observed.

A proper comparison is integrated to ascertain feasibility of results (Bryant & Schiavenato, 2016).

The outcome is directly established from anticipated results.

Suitable period is chosen to make inquiry more effective (Bryant & Schiavenato, 2016).

A proper inquiry should address an issue that is critical within the society (Bryant & Schiavenato 2016).. It is important to be specific and focus on a distinct matter that requires attention. The set up should help realize a suitable outcomes. The focus on senior citizens provides the scope of population that is relevant to the issue of inquiry. The development of the intervention entailed inclusion of management strategy that should help in solving the issue. The difference between management and lack of utilization of the strategies is best portrayed in two different groups or situations with one being a control group. This provides the basis for comparison of input. The outcome is solely based on the desired results that should be realized from the application of intervention measures. Timing is important in getting conclusive answers from the question. The use of the flu season provided a very suitable time for the clinical study. This season provides basis for the research due to increased incidence of the problem of concern (Bryant & Schiavenato 2016).

PubMed Clinical Queries has extensive coverage on clinical issues.

COCHRANE Database of Systematic Reviews.

ProQuest provided insightful evidence.

Web of Science was also useful.

Pubmed database has numerous resources that are essential in studying biomedical literature and life sciences. It provided informed details on topics that were relevant in the inquiry.

COCHRANE database is especially vital as it shares wealth of knowledge on healthcare. The systematic reviews contributed in development of the inquiry. Such as in addressing vaccination for influenza.

ProQuest provides access to peer-reviewed articles that help in studying the clinical issue. Web of science provided vast information on health aspects associated with the subject of the study.

Pizzi et al., (2016) focused on randomized trial on elderly individual who consented to the vaccination trial.

Zeng et al. (2015) utilized a review of information from different databases in compilation of the study.

Treanor (2016) does an in-depth systematic reviews and meta-analysis of flu vaccination across randomized groups.

Strengths of Systematic Reviews

Systematic reviews incorporate substantial studies which reduce biasness. It is done by reviewing diverse literatures from different databases.

They give knowledge on use of findings in common practice.

They are essential in identification of knowledge gaps that brings the clinical enquiries. The knowledge gaps are then addressed through research

They provide simple and conclusive coverage (Zeng et al., 2015).

The process of carrying out systematic reviews integrates many different articles which helps in enhancing the reliability and accuracy of findings.

The results are in many cases applicable in the lives of people and the reviews are useful in giving such direction (Zeng et al., 2015)

Knowledge gaps do exist in clinical practice and it is vital that they are identified and addressed. The development of the reviews also allows easier comprehension of the major points in the study (Zeng et al., 2015)
