Procurement Process, Strategies, Approaches and Key Issues with Regards to
Contracts
Introduction
Procurement is a well-de�ned discipline that has become one of the most critical components of
the project value chain. The total cost, pro�t and project schedule depend on how e�ectively the
procurement process is managed. To coordinate procurement operations, project managers are
pro�cient in determining the applicability and suitability of di�erent procurement models to their
projects. In this module you study the procurement process, procurement strategies and
approaches and key issues with regards to contracts.
As part of key issues, risk management and risk mitigation aspects will be considered in greater
depth - in particular to explore the Essential Learning Resources (Case Study) and understand its
importance - both from issues that have arisen in the past and e�orts that needs to be put-in to
ensure successful completion.
Module 2 learning activities will include a review of the learning resources (essential, highly
recommended and other learning resources), viewing of essential videos, engaging with other
students to discuss key sub-topics (noted below) and ultimately record key aspects through
re�ection in the student’s re�ection journal.
This module will cover:
Procurement process, strategies approaches and also look at particular types of procurements in particular the Private Public Partnership (PPP-type Procurement)
Organisational impact, understanding tendering and tender evaluation from a project perspective;
Corporate responsibility in the procurement context and procurement process including expression of interest and request for proposal;

The Case Study to identify risks, mitigations, dependencies, key issues.
This module will help you:
1. Learn about procurement approaches with further in-depth review of the PPP-type procurement - identifying areas of excellence;
2. Understand the importance of procurement function to your organisation, the organisational impact and project context in procurement;
3. Better understand probity, corporate responsibility and project approvals and delegations - as applied to your organisation - and test these aspects against the Case Study project;
4. Reinforce the importance of procurement process and its importance to ensuring strategic alignment of procurement to the business;
5. Explore strategic procurement and associated procurement tools and techniques
6. Understand tender evaluation process from a project perspective.
7. Study examples of Expressions of Interest, Request for Proposals (or Quotations and Tenders) including e-procurement;
8. Explore Contract Management and Management of risks;
9. Critique a real-life Case Study, complex procurement project with regards to risks, mitigations, dependencies with the aim of developing strategies for project completions
10. Exchange ideas with other students through the discussion form on the above topics and also record key aspect in the Re�ection Journal.
