Module 2 - SLP

BUSINESS RESEARCH BASICS

“The principal characteristic of scholarly and scientific inquiry – as opposed to informal, intuitive kinds of inquiry - is the use of rationally grounded procedures to extend knowledge that a community of scholars regards as reliable and valid.” (Rudestam & Newton, 2015).

Dissertations at Trident are mostly quantitative using multivariate analysis. Some dissertations use both quantitative and qualitative methods. The reason we use quantitative methods mainly is because these are consistent with the majority of publications in the Business literature.

1. What are quantitative methods of inquiry? In your view, what are the pros and cons of using quantitative methods?

2. What methods are the most popular ones in your area of research?

3. What are the differences between primary and secondary data collection. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using either one.
