ART1300 MODULE SIX ESSAY ASSIGNMENT

Overview

Like all of the assignments in this course, this one requires you to apply what you have learned in the textbook. In the essay assignment, you will find works of art that exhibit specific visual elements and principles of design and explain how these are visible in the work.

Be sure to use as many relevant terms and concepts from this module’s list and prior lists as possible. Your goal is to demonstrate mastery of the module and course content.

Instructions

For this assignment, you will use the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and find at least six narrative artworks: two each from Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, and Ancient Rome. At least three of the works must be three-dimensional art.

You will explain the medium and how each of the works displays the typical naturalism or abstraction (choose the correct one), poses, systems of proportion and scale, and approach to implied space of its culture’s art (Ancient Egyptian, Ancient Greek, Ancient Roman) as explained in Chapter 14.

Then, you will identify at least six symbols in the work that tells the story of the narrative.

This means that you need to look carefully and analyze the museum works for multiple characteristics (medium, poses, systems of proportion and scale, approach to implied space, narrative).

Steps

1. Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection at https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection and search for works that apply the specific, required information from Chapters 4-5 and 14.

2. Choose works that display a narrative with six symbols, and have the required medium, visual element(s), and principle(s) of design.

3. Paste your photographs into the spaces provided. Resize, if necessary.

4. Compose your written answers in a university-level, professional writing style. Explain clearly what the required medium is and how it is visible. Then explain clearly and in great detail how the required visual elements and principles of design are used and where they are visible in the work. Then identify the six symbols and explain how they tell the narrative’s story. This is the evidence for each answer.

5. Proofread for errors and to ensure completion.

6. Cite the sources you consult for this assignment.

7. Check your work against the rubric for this assignment to maximize your score.

8. Submit by the deadline.

9. Confirm that your submission went through in good shape by returning to the submission portal.
