1. The most effective strategy in developing a culture of safety regarding technology is staff education. If the staff using the technology in the patient care area is not adequately trained for use then potential problems could arise and therefore lead to patient injury. Continuing education such as annual nurse competencies on technology used in the workplace is a beneficial way to adequately re-educate staff on equipment use. Technology used in the ICU that requires annual competencies include the Level 1 massive transfusion machine, the ICP monitor, pacemakers, etc. Implementation of modern technology in nursing increases nurses efficiency, but it is also changing the way of care for patients (JELEĆ et al., 2016). The more advanced the technology the more advanced the patient care will become and staff education is important. Lindy

2. EHR systems often require many customized interfaces to make them interoperable with other providers and organizations" (Reisman, 2017). Interoperability is in place to provide continuity of care of patients by permitting data exchange between providers. Ethical consideration related to interoperability is concerns of privacy and security. In order for sharing of data to work properly, patients must be able to trust that their information is protected and privacy is maintained. If any doubt that information could be disclosed publicly, patients may not be honest about their medical history and continuity of care could be compromised (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2018).
Proper training of technology is the most effective strategy for developing a culture of safety regarding technology. Technology is used to help improve patient care and improve patient's outcomes. It is found that many errors come from users not being properly trained on the use of technology. Farokhzadian et al (2018) states that, "...the majority of injuries and safety-related deaths are preventable by designing and planning safety processes and techniques." Many safety issues may be prevented by proper use of informatics technology. The safety of the patient is the foundation of quality health care.
