What is climate change?
According to google climate change is defined as a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onward and attributed largely to the increase levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. To put it into a different perspective millions of years ago this planet was covered by ice glaciers and now cities are in danger of disappearing due to the sea levels rising.
When did Climate Change start?
Climate change has been around for about 11,700 years. The earth’s climate has always been changing in the last 650,000 years there have been seven cycles of glacial advance and retreat. On June 23, 1988 climate change officially became a national issue before the U.S Senate and Natural Resources Committee
Why/How are humans responsible for global warming?
Scientist measure the factors that affect the amount of energy that reaches earth’s climate
which is known as radiative forcing. According to the analysis that Carbon Brief has done it is estimates that since 1850 almost all the long-term warming can be explained by greenhouse gas emissions and other human activities. Some greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide. These chemicals become trapped in the Earth’s outgoing energy which results in heat being retained. The graph below shows that out of all the radiative forcing only increasing the levels of greenhouse gas emissions produce that magnitude or warming for the past 150 years.
