Hello Everyone,
Most academic institutions find it unethical to use artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT to write assignments, as this violates the principles of academic integrity. Academic honesty is when students produce their own work that is unique and reflects their mastery and hard work. The rapid development of generative AI technologies has become a challenge for universities, as they can enable students to bypass the learning process and compromise honest academic work (Xie et al., 2023). Submission of AI-generated text as original work of the student may be considered cheating or plagiarism, as the student themselves does not produce it, but by an AI. The practice may undermine the authority of institutions and the quality of educational backgrounds.
Another ethical concern is the overuse of AI in assignments, which may be ruining the ability of students to think critically and write. According to Lund et al. (2025), the increasing use of AI tools in education have made it difficult for students to know what academic misconduct and ethical responsibility entails. As a consequence, students have the opportunity to be less intensely engaged with the content of the course.
