Guidance on Assignment

· Make sure you refer to the marking rubric that is attached to the question. This will guide you on what is expected.

· Don’t spend a lot of time describing the normative goals. You need to show that you understand how they apply to the topic that you choose: not describe what they are.

· You will need to do some background reading to make sure that you understand the three normative goals that you are asked to apply in the essay.

· You will also need to do some independent research on the topic that you choose.

· Use headings / sub-headings to show where you are addressing the different components of the essay. You need to clearly show where you are discussing equity / economic / administrative impacts – these are three distinct topics, so don’t discuss them together.

Structure: One possible structure is below. This is not the only way that your work can be presented.

· Introduction: this should be fairly brief. What is your topic? Provide a short background by way of context and problem identification. One or two paragraphs.

· Explain the administrative impacts that are relevant to your topic. Engage with the academic and/or practitioner literature.

· Explain the economic impacts that are relevant to your topic. Engage with the academic and/or practitioner literature.

· Explain the equity impacts that are relevant for your topic. Engage with the academic and/or practitioner literature.

· Conclusion: also brief. One or two paragraphs to summarise and conclude the essay.

· Reference list: provide a reference list with all the references you have used in the essay. You also need to do in-text citation (i.e. a reference list at the end is not sufficient).
