Abstract (100 words)
The abstract should be no more than about 100 words in length as a maximum and should fit on 1 page only. The purpose of the abstract is to provide a brief synopsis of your work, some background, key aim and some synthesis of the case study. The abstract should be written in the past tense and in the 3rd person passive.
Subdivide your abstract in 3 parts:
1. Your topic: What was the question you addressed in your case study
2. Your objectives: What you set out to achieve, and how this addressed the topic
3. The lessons learned: What you learned, and how far it met your objectives
Acknowledgments
It is correct (and professional) to acknowledge everyone who has helped either in the internship or writing up of the case study: for instance your supervisors, the librarian, a typist, language checker and anyone else who has given you useful information, advice or support.
Table of content
Table of tables and figures
There should be two separate lists: one for tables and one for figures. Each should contain the number of the table or figure, and the number of the page on which it appears in the text. Number sequences should be separate for tables and figures, but both should be Arabic numbers: i.e. Table 1, Table 2, Figure 1, Figure 2 etc.
Tables are used to display information in a way that allows the reader to understand it as easily as possible. Tables should be numbered consecutively within the document and its number and title should be displayed clearly at the top of the table. There should be a concise summary in the text that reinforces the points made in the table, positioned close enough to the table for the reader to check his or her understanding of each point made. Do not insert tables that are not referred to within the text.
Figures should have the number and title displayed at the bottom, and should be accompanied by a figure legend. They should also be numbered consecutively. Figures include such things as pie charts, bar charts, graphs, histograms, scatter charts, diagrams, maps or photographs .
Revise Case Study and Self Reflection Rubrics for sections and expected content.
Find below some guidelines about sections in the Case Study part:
INTRODUCTION
The main function of the introduction is to allow the reader to understand the background to the business and the department(s) in which you work as intern, and then to follow the process by which you have identified a topic worthy of study, and finally to be clear about your objectives.
You start your introduction here by presenting the setting of the case study. Some literature references might be used here – cited appropriately (maximum 5 sources).
Business and department(s)
Provide the reader with a clear description of where you worked.
Overriding topic and objectives
Provide the reader a description and explanation of the topic you want to study and the goal of it.
Important terms (optional)
If necessary, inform the reader of important terms used in your case study by defining them here.
You should finish with a lead-in paragraph to the next chapter.
MAIN BODY (Adapt the heading based on your topic)
This section is the key section where you demonstrate your analytical skills. It is an opportunity to move beyond the data and contextualize creatively the findings. It is important to ensure that there is a clear link between the chosen courses and the objectives of your case study, and that all your claims and assertions are acknowledged in the APA referencing style. The 2 courses used for the analysis must be identifiable.
<First heading>
Discuss your first theme in details. Critically review, compare and contrast the theories/literature that is related to the theme.
<Second heading>
Continue with the different sections (2.3, 2.4, etc.) until you have critically reviewed all of appropriate themes.
Summary
Provide the reader a summary of the themes by critically linking them.
You should finish with a lead-in paragraph to the next chapter.
CONCLUSION
< Lessons learned>
You should reflect on what your learned during the case study.
<Recommendations>
Any recommendations for organizational improvement/development are provided here
<Potential constraints or limitations>
Any constraints or limitations encountered should be discussed here
FOR SELF REFLECTION SECTIONS PLEASE REVISE SELF-REFLECTION RUBRIC
Scroll down to Reference and Appendices guidelines.
REFERENCE LIST
An alphabetical list of the references you have cited and used throughout should be provided here in the format specified by the APA Referencing System.
Please note that failure to appropriately acknowledge your sources will be regarded as plagiarism. Plagiarism is the stealing of thoughts or writings of others and giving them out as your own. There is a formal procedure whereby suspected plagiarism is investigated and a negative outcome will result in a mark of zero.
APPENDICES
This is where you can place material which is either too voluminous to insert in the relevant chapter or perhaps is an example of a field document used etc.
Number your appendices.
All raw data, including questionnaires and or interview transcripts, should be kept for possible inspection but not placed as an appendix.
