Based upon your MLQ results, what is your greatest personal leadership challenge?

Leadership is not an easy task as it requires one to have mastery of their emotions so that they can provide direction and guidance to their subordinates. As much as I have tried to be a better leader, I face many setbacks that hinder me from being in better control of myself. One of the things that I have struggled most with is losing confidence when I face setbacks. The truth is, every time I fail I tend to lose confidence in myself to a point of feeling that I cannot make it. My failures sometimes weigh down and that affects my performance as a leader

How do you believe the components of transformational leadership (TL) can help you successfully face your challenges?

Transformational leadership calls for a committed relationship between the subordinates and the leader. It is the duty of the leader to ensure that on a daily basis he inspires the people that he leads. Under this model of leadership, the leader is on the spotlight at all times and I believe that this is the kind of leadership that will of most help to me when it comes to facing challenges.

Idealized influence is a component of transformational leadership that requires the leader to be that one person that all the subordinate’s look up to (McCleskey, 2014). During times when I feel scared of my failures and I lose confidence, having people that look up to me is more than enough motivation for me to rise above my fears. My subordinates will be the driving force behind my taking one step forward at a time

Which of your personality traits are beneficial to your transformational leadership development? Which are liabilities? Explain why for each.

Creativity has been a stronghold that has made me a better leader over time. I have always been careful to involve my subordinates in the decision making processes. This makes them more responsible and through feeling that they are recognized, they become leaders in their own way through the confidence that they develop over time

Unfortunately, I am neither talkative nor outgoing and that has in way hindered effective interaction with the people I lead. Due to this I miss out a lot on knowing them personally so that I can understand what the motivating factor that drives everyone is. This results in failure when it comes to keeping them well motivated

What experiences in your life have shaped your current leadership abilities and potential?

Being the eldest in a family of four automatically gave me the experience of being a leader. Most of the time my parents were away for works and I had to take care of my younger ones. I learnt that as a leader one has to be patient and ready to go an extra mile if they want to get things done
