Doing the MT

Answer ALL questions in this section. Answers should be at least 200 words long. Be sure the essay represents your voice; essay should reflect your understanding of the issues in the question. This is not an occasion for dumping extras from your favorite writer on the subject. Each answer is worth 2.5 points.

1- Consider Frederick Douglass or Booker T. Washington. Write a short essay (at least 200 words long) that shows what you have learned about one of the two men. Discuss such issues as early childhood, freedom from slavery, life's work/career, family life, African American leadership, and relevance or contributions to African American life. Be sure your essay reflects your voice.

2- Write a short essay (at least 200 words long) about African

Americans and the United States Civil War. What was the cause of the war? Did African Americans fight in the war? Why? How? Write a very short essay that answers these questions.

3- Who is Ida B. Wells? What should we know about her passion for justice? is her claim to fame? What contributions has she made to contemporary American life? Write a short essay (at least 200 words long) that answers these questions for one of these leaders.

4- What is slavery? Why was it introduced in America? How did

slavery end in America? Write a very short essay that answers these questions.
