Case Study 3: Driving Ari Fleet Management with Real-Time Analytics

Question 1:

ARI collected data on fuel consumption, maintenance, licensing, and compliance for all of its client vehicles. They also had data for the operation of its six North American call centers that were always open to support their client base, assist with repair tickets and troubleshooting, failures, emergencies, maintenance, and the entire gamete of customer service needs. The collected data was daunting .it took an average of 5 days to compile and provide the report to the internal users for data management. Any adjustments by the user would then have to go through the compilation cycle yet again. Between the system issues and the ridiculous amount of raw data, ARI was in over its head and couldn't possibly manage the data. ARI compiled data on a customer by customer basis. The compilation made it difficult, if not impossible, to bring together data across different industries.

Question 2:

ARI was able to provide detailed information to their customers regarding fleet operations, but the type of information they were able to deliver was limited. ARI was also useful in analyzing customer by customer data but was unable to bring it together across the different fields. The specific information required too much manual work and time and still couldn't perform to the level the management had hoped for.

Furthermore, to create reports, ARI had to outsource, which increased the time for preparation and amendment of reports.  (Laudon & Laudon, 2015, pg. 233)

Question 3:

A company, the size of ARI, cannot afford to fall behind on information systems technology. Before SAP HANA, ARI had to go through a process to create and analyze reports. It would take up to 5 days to compile a report. They were able to analyze individual customer data but not the aggregate customer base data. There was a lot of manual work and time required, and they were still not able to deliver the insight that management wanted. (Laudon & Laudon, 2015, pg. 233) .however, these problems were addressed by SAP HANA, making it a good investment for ARI.

Question 4:

ARI underwent a handful of changes immediately. It adopted HANA, which mostly provided significant benefits for the company. They were able to retrieve reports and data in real-time since they changed to cloud storage, retrieve customized reports to help make better predictions, and they cut down on overhead costs by eliminating the time required to handle transactions in call centers. HANA saved them a great deal in costs since call centers make up 40% of their overhead. (Laudon & Laudon, 2015, pg. 234). The incorporation of HANA significantly improved the accuracy and efficiency of operations, notwithstanding the better customer experience it brought by.

Conclusion

ARI had at the first encountered various problems of data management. (Laudon & Laudon, 2015, pg.233).it took a lot of time to prepare reports, and the efficiency levels were far below the standards. In a bid to solve this, it Introduced HANA, which completely looked into the company’s problems. Today ARI is the leading fleet management company in the world.

Case Study 4: Zappos

Question 1:

SCM is the management of the flow of information among supply chain activities aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and profitability. This management can benefit Zappos by making it more useful for Zappos to deliver its products as quickly and effectively as possible. Zappos is focusing a lot of their marketing budget on customer service. Zappos's further dedication to their customers could organize their shipping to be much faster and more flexible, as well as providing more products for their customer's through their catalog. Zappos has the benefit of Amazon's supply chain to assist in making their deliveries even quicker than previously thought possible.

Question 2:

CRM involves the management of relationships between the organization and its customers geared to provide amazing services to the customers. Zappos offers benefits to its customers by giving aftersales services like free transportation and a tentative return of

the shoes. Zappos also goes above and beyond to guarantee their customers next day delivery of orders received as late as 11 pm. Also, Zappos maintains an updated online catalog, meaning that customers do not have to guess on the actual availability of the needed product. Besides that, Zappos maintains a vibrant call center to assist customers with any issues with their orders.

Question 3:

ERP is a system that integrates the entire organization's department to avail of information across the whole organization. Zappos needs to implement SCM, CRM, and ERP to facilitate easier decision making for the decision elements and to ensure everyone reads from the same page. Zappos also needs to avail necessary information that the customer may need at the right time by use of ERP and CRM. Having a connected corporation would streamline the supply chain operations ensuring timely receipt and delivery of goods.

Question 4:

This merger is a good thing for all parties involved and more so to the customers. The customers will be able to receive their deliveries every time, including holidays. Another issue would be customer support. Amazon has excellent customer support. Amazon is taking steps to hire more customer service representatives, but it will take time to develop the intricacies that Zappos' current system already contains. Amazon also lists many items that are sold out on their website, which would be a massive change for many of Zappos' existing customers.

Question 5:

Zappos may use Amazon's vast network of suppliers, as well as Amazon's developing technology to increase their sales and customer satisfaction. Amazon wants to roll out drones to deliver pages in short periods meaning products get to their consumers more quickly and more so in less than a day. This merger would be an excellent bonus for Zappos customers.
