Running Head: DATA BREACHES 1

Date

Data breaches is acknowledged as loss of information through unlawful access to other people’s data. In this case, the data breach or cyber-attack that I will base on is the easy jet cyber-attack. Through the same, various businesses have been attacked hence revealing people’s private information. The case of my choice took place on 19th May 2020, where an easy jet encountered information breach. Through the data breaches that has been taking place, I have realized that a data breach can occur at the middle of a pandemic making hackers to gain benefits of any threats like health issues, loopholes learning centers or even flawed security limitations to access your sensitive private information and personal information like debit and credit card numbers, social security information. Although it is not easy to predict information breach, there are some steps that can be undertake to protect such issues from taking place in future (Oakley, 2019).

The incident in question occurred where a report was made that email addresses and travel data more than 9 million people were negotiated in a high delicate cyber-attack. At this time, Credit cards of 2,208 clients were accessed by the hackers. To handle the issue, the easy jet had to contact the customers whose information had been accessed during the breach. The action that was taken immediately was notifying the National Cyber security Center and the ICO being the UK’s information watchdog. The reason behind reporting was to ensure that the department investigates the breach that took place exposing customer’s information to unauthorized people (Wong et al., 2020).

In conclusion, data breach is one of the trending and controversial topic in the public. Data breach is taking place on daily bases making many people lose their information to intruders. It is advised that the department in charge of the accessed information to report to the required department for further investigation, and also ensure such has been protected to boost the morale of customers.
