SOC 320 Milestone Two Guidelines and Rubric

Overview: In Module Two, you selected an issue for your final project. In Module Three, you completed the Milestone One Worksheet in which you selected a social advocacy group and potential research sources and identified the theoretical lenses that are appropriate to analyzing historical and modern interpretations of the issue. For the Taking a Stand Worksheet, which you completed in Module Four, you began to shape your position statement. For Milestone Two, you will create a detailed outline for your final paper, synthesizing all of your work in the course to date and incorporating all of the feedback you have received from the instructor.

Prompt: Complete a detailed outline to accomplish the following:

• State the position you are taking for the paper. • Identify stereotypes that may need to be challenged in order for others to accept your position. • List historical events of the last decade that have affected perceptions on this issue (historical interpretations). • Identify the social changes these historic events have caused. • Explain current perceptions related to this issue (modern interpretations) within the family, the media, educational institutions, and organized religion. • Describe the theoretical lenses that you will use to support the analysis of the historical and modern interpretations.

In your outline submission, you may keep the numbering and lettering as it is documented below. In order to make this assignment as useful as possible in preparation for your final position paper, write your outline in complete sentences and with the audience for your final position paper in mind. In this way, the outcome becomes the foundation for your paper and you can build off the structure you have established here.

Make brief notes related to the validity, effects, and persistence of these stereotypes. C. List recent social change regarding the issue and examples you will use to support the appropriateness of these changes to your issue.

D. List at least two historical events that have affected perceptions of your issue (historical interpretations) based on your research source; outline the social changes each historical event you identified caused in relation to your issue.

E. List at least two current perceptions of your issue (modern interpretations) based on your research sources and outline the impact each has had on relevant social structures (i.e., social institutions and culture).

F. Identify appropriate sociological theory to conduct an analysis of the historical and modern interpretations of the issue.
