Dresses first appeared during ancient times when people started living together.
In Mesopotamia where Babylonians, Sumerians, and Assyrians lived, their native
clothing was in the form of a dress. This was during the third millennium, which is
2500BC. They wore the tunic dress. This garment covered their arms and shoulders
and it was made from wool but later changed to linen. It was both worn by men and
women but men's dresses were shorter Another dress the wore was a shawl that was
rectangular and the edges had frills on them. It had no folds and there were holes for
the head and hands only (Tortora, n.d).
