Submit the Milestone One Worksheet. In this milestone, you will address the following:
-
Indicate what data set you have chosen and why. If you chose a particular data set to align with your concentration in psychology, describe in a sentence or two why you have chosen this concentration.
I have chosen data set scenario 5, simply because I like the idea of doing a study biased on superstitions. I could say that this data set might have been chosen because I am concentrating in child and adolescent development, and some people believe children behave differently on days like Friday the 13th. However I have never seen evidence to support that theory… full moons though that is a different story, for another time.
-
Describe the involved parties in the data set presented and the question you can answer by the data.
The two parties in data set 5 are Friday the 6th and Friday the 13th. Are there more traffic accidents on Friday the 13th than on there are on other Fridays, and if so are the increased accidents on Friday the 13th due to the stigma and superstitious feelings of the day and number 13?
-
Discuss why the data set exemplifies a study that agrees with the APA's Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct.
This question holds up the ethical principles of psychologists and Code of Conduct, even though the study may seem insignificant and/or pointless, it could show how a person’s belief in the stigmas of a day and number can cause serious impacts on there life. That if you believe something will happen you have a higher probability of causing something (good or bad) to happen. It is our professional and scientific responsibility to discover all truths and to help better the welfare of society.
-
Discuss ethical issues that may arise when analyzing and reporting statistical data.
It is possible that the study could show how different races are more effected than others by stigmas and superstations due to the culture in which they where raised, which could lead to new or worsened unethical stereotyping
-
Describe one way in which you will ensure your reporting of results in your data analysis will align with the APA's Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct.
All needed consent forms will be collected, and proper credits will be giving. No data will be skewed for the betterment of a race, color, sex, gender, belief system, or national origin.
