Running head: PUBLICLY TRADED COMPANIES 1

PUBLICLY TRADED COMPANIES 2

Most companies nowadays have decided to go public, but is it a good idea for them, more so for their performance? I wanted to know the answer to this question; most importantly if public offering improved their financial performance. Here, I will be looking at Amazon corporation and comparing it to private companies in the New York Stock Exchange market. Their financial performance, in accordance with ownership, structure, and size, will help me find out the truth about the financial capabilities of publicly traded companies in the stock exchange. The findings will also help me to fill the gap in the studies that are comparing profitability between private companies and publicly traded companies.

Now, Amazon Corporation is an American company that focuses on cloud computing, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, and digital streaming (Rivas, 2019). It is a multinational technology organization that was incorporated by Jeff Bezos in 1994, and by 1997, the company went public. A year later, the company began selling music and videos, and it also acquired online sellers of books in Germany and the United Kingdom. The organization also began software sales, consumer electronics, and toys among other items in the subsequent years.

The corporation started Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2002, which provided data on internet traffic patterns, website popularity, and statistics for developers and marketers. Several years later, the company improved on it is AWS system when Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) was made available. And in 2006, the organization began fulfillment by Amazon, which was created to help manage inventories of small companies as well as inventories of individuals who were selling products through the company's website. Finally, Amazon purchased Kiva Systems in 2012 to automate their inventory-management business, and in 2017, they bought Whole Foods Market Supermarket chain.
