Leadership Ethics Assessment Comparison

In the first situation, some of the observers have pointed out that doing what benefits the most people would be an option whereas I think that doing what is right is the best alternative. Doing what is right involves going as per the rules while adhering to the policy of the organization and this can include giving warnings. In situation two of the self-assessment, I think doing what’s fair would be the best alternative given that the underperforming employee is a person/employee like any other except that he underperforms. This illustrates the need to treat the employee fairly while being just. According to Northouse (2019) moving others to do what is right for the right reason is the core objective of an ethical leader. This is why situation three needs doing what a good person needs doing other than doing what benefits the most people.

Given the endeavors in situation four, doing what is fair would be a great deal because this is a way of being evenhanded with the employee claiming more hours. Fairness entails conforming to a balanced norm of justice that is unfettered by one's emotions (Northouse, 2019). A relationship is a core factor in leadership and this includes nurturing relationships while responding to other peoples’ needs and that’s why this alternative is best for situation five. Other alternatives provided by observers do not fit in the situation because as a leader, considerations matter, and that why the leader will have to consider other employees who do not finish their existing quotas like others.

I don’t think other alternatives fit in situation six other than doing what is right. This is because my job as a leader within the company entails fulfilling obligations and meeting responsibilities as provided by the company’s leaders. I think that doing what a good person would do in situation seven is the best alternative. This means acting with integrity and solving the situation and having all employees work overtime as expected. Since it’s a matter of helping the single parent who might be stealing to help her kids, doing what benefits the most people would be the best alternative. Situation nine needs doing what a good person would do and part of this is acting with integrity while following my principles. By following my principles which entail being honest, I would go ahead and hire the employee with the best qualifications. In situation ten, observers’ responses differ and from my point of view, I think that doing what is right would be a good choice. This includes playing by the company’s policy and following rules, and therefore I would be forced to flunk the student.

This information is very fundamental while developing a leadership action plan because it acts as a guideline of some of the situations that I can face as a leader and ways through which I can approach them. By applying knowledge from the self-assessment, I will be in a better position to play by the company’s rules while responding ethically to developing situations.
