The criminal justice system has not escaped the influence of racial profiling. Racial discrimination of the various minority groups still affects the justice system in manners of bail decisions, use of deadly force, imprisonment rates, and parole decisions. The criminal justice system has created a situation where the minority groups have a higher chance of being charged unfairly and treated unfairly. Minority groups such as the black community, Latin Americans, and the Native Americans no longer can rely on the criminal justice system. The impact of the resulting racial profiling in criminal justice has been the violence and horror created among minority groups (Phillips, 2007). The groups no longer enjoy the same educational and economic benefits equally. The problem needs to be addressed because justice is one form of addressing human rights.
The evolution of racism in criminal justice began during the times of civil wars and black lives movements. For the black minorities, the racism began during the ears of slavery and continued to the 1960s where there was an uprising against segregation and the civil rights movements. The police brutality against the abolitionists was severe. The use of deadly force created a situation of tension between the police and the blacks. Even with the withdrawal of segregation policies, the act was irrelevant because justice was still administered unfairly.
From the brutality and force against the black movements, perceptions of self-defense emerged, and the black community had to find a way to defend themselves from the justice system, which should be providing protection. The police have become the enemy and are not to be trusted. The perception of police not getting along with the black communities was born, and parents teach their children how to live as a black. The growth of technology has come in handy in profiling the injustice that the black communities have been going through, and this is going a long way in defending the justice of the black lives. Such movements as black lives matter reminds the justice system of the injustices that the community has gone through and try to change the situation. Police brutality and use of deadly force have captured the eyes of many.
