Task: Mid-term timed assignment - 40% (deadline Sunday May 8th 2022, 23h59)
• This is an individual task in which the student will analyze specific cases and answer the following questions accordingly
Case 01: LaLiga is a global, innovative, and socially responsible organization, a leader in the leisure and entertainment sector. It is a private sports association
composed of the 20 clubs and SADs (public limited sports companies) in LaLiga Santander and the 22 in LaLiga SmartBank, responsible for the organization of
these national professional football competitions. LaLiga, together with Mediapro, are responsible for managing & commercializing the Broadcasting and
Audiovisual Rights of Spanish Professional Football League (First and Second) division.
1 Explain the Unique Features of the Sports Industry and how they influence the Management of Sports Organizations. Give one example.
2 Define Sports Governing Bodies and explain the importance of Statutes and Governance Regulations for the effective management of sports
organizations.
3 Define (and give one example) of External, Internal and Connected Stakeholders of Sports Organizations. Explain how a sport organization can achieve its
primary goals by investing on the relationship with connected stakeholders. Give one example.
Case 02: Red Bull GmbH is a Sports Powerhouse. With properties varying from Football to eSports or F1, it was established in the past decades as a top-tier
Sports Holding Group. Liberty Media, City Football Group and Uniter World are other relevant examples of companies diversifying its properties by investing in
Sports Related, Entertainment and Lifestyle ventures.
4 Define a Sports Holding Group and explain the differences between a Listed Sports Company and a Sports Association (Non-profit) in terms of objectives,
Management Structure, Corporate Governance Practices and Codes of Conduct. Give one example.
5 Assess the important of research in sport management (and other areas) for the development of appropriate, effective and efficient corporate
management strategies in the Sport sector.
Case 3: The Fastest growing non-mainstream sports properties in today’s sport industry relies most of its activities on new technologies. Properties like the
Drone Racing League intertwines new technologies, eSports and Sports to deliver a full entertainment package. Focused 100% on business (and revenues), this
example showcases the future trends for the sports industry.
6 Explain how new sports business models and the connection between sports and new technologies can impact the future of the Sports Industry and
change sports management practices.

Weight: This task is a 40% of your total grade for this subject.
