TAQMON: MICROCONTROLLER BASED TEMPERATURE AND AIR QUALITY

MONITORING SYSTEM The combination of weather conditions and air quality have a direct effect on population health quality. Therefore, it’s important to have access to systems that allow us to have a real time update on these factors. A weather station is a device that collects data related to the weather and environment using several different sensors. Monitoring temperature and air quality are amongst the most important factors when establishing a weather-health correlation. Recent studies reveal connections between temperature, pollution and public health. When dealing with air quality CO plays a major role in atmospheric reactions that produce ground-level ozone, a major component of smog. This project proposes the design and implementation of a Microcontroller Based System that integrates the acquisition of the forementioned data using specific sensors and displaying real time updates using an LCD Screen. (See Figure No.1)

Figure No.1 TAQMON Block Diagram. The Temperature and Humidity data will be acquired using a TMP36 Sensor, and the Carbon- Oxide Air Quality index will be estimated using an MQ-2 Air Pollution Sensor. The output values will be displayed using a 16x2 LCD Screen.

An ATmega328P Microcontroller will be used as the main control device and the Arduino UNO R3 Development Board will be the prototyping platform for the whole system.
