Overview

In this case study, you will take on the role of an undergraduate student recently hired to be a lab assistant in a microbiology research lab. In this role you will use the Kirby-Bauer technique to investigate antibiotic resistance and how it relates to the medical use of antibiotics. As you work through the attached worksheet, you will measure zones of inhibition from a series of plate diagrams and use that information to calculate the averages and standard deviations for each set of data. You will use this data to answer a series of questions regarding how antibiotics, resistance and susceptibility relate to various hypothetical situations.
