linguistic repertoires
Micro Lesson #1 –General Linguistic Performance - Due: February 15th – 10 points
Assignment Directions: For this assignment you will simulate teaching a lesson focused on having students draw on their general linguistic performance for learning. We will meet in zoom for the scheduled class meeting. For your lesson, identify the grade level and subject. Undergraduates should plan on a 4-minute lesson and graduate students 6- 7 minutes. Your lesson should include following:
• An explanation or demonstration of how students will be encouraged to use their home languages at least 3 times (graduate students) or 1 time (undergraduate) to perform a task and participate in the lesson.
• A demonstration or walk through of how the lesson will promote engagement and student's use of their full linguistic repertoires. (Undergraduate students are only required to address engagement)
• Modeling or describing how students will use of their full linguistic repertoire to assist them in making meaning.
After each group member presents their lesson- they will each provide at least one point of feedback on the elements of the lesson (home language, engagement, or meaning making) that were effective and one point of feedback on an aspect of the lesson that could be improved. I will provide feedback based on the rubric.
If you cannot meet in person - you will create a video recording of only you - teaching or simulating teaching of a lesson focused on general linguistic performance as described above. The videos will be shared through a discussion board. You will create a discussion post that includes the video, you can 1) attach the video to the post OR embed from Youtube - this option is recommended because this will not require you to download the files (and this option will be more compatible with mobile devices). If you use YouTube, it is recommended that you make the video “unlisted” which will prevent people from finding the video in search and still allow anyone to view it that has the direct link. Here is a link to a video that explains how to upload using YouTube: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/157177?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en
