2420 microbiology
Students will be given the name of a bacterial organism by April 13, 2021. Additionally, a flowchart will be provided for the unknown that will be used as a guide for the assignment. This will included determining the stains and tests that would be used to identify their organism, which will include the expected results and the materials/methods used to perform each of the tests. Once all of this is complete, students will research the background information about their organism that can include where they are naturally found, diseases it may be associated with, or any other relevant information about the organism. In order to do this, students will need to use a minimum of 5 resources (textbook, lab manual, internet, etc.) to obtain the background information needed for their report. All of the information and expected results will be organized into a report that will include the following sections:
· Cover page – student’s name, class time, and the name of their organism.
· Introduction – background information about the organism with cited references.
· Materials & Methods – list of items used for each test and how they would be used (preferably in chronological order).
· Expected Results & Interpretations – describe the expected results from each test that enables one to identify the organism. This can be in tabular or paragraph formats.
· Works Cited – list all of the sources used to collect the background information about the organism. Plagiarism will not be tolerated. All sources will be verified. Please see the works cited instructions document for details about formatting the works cited section of the report.
The body of the report will need to be typed in 12-point font with 1” margins and double-spaced.
