Microbial resistance

As stated in the Ted Talk by Victoria Fraser, M.D., "Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest public health crises in the U.S. and across the Globe." Since the discovery and mass production of Antibiotics, many have recovered from simple cuts to major life-threatening infections. Antibiotics have proven themselves worthy of minimizing and eradicating the continued growth of microbes within our bodies. However, we at times misuse antibiotics; thereby presenting us with another extreme threat of severe infections and quarantine because microbes are becoming Resistant to the drugs in which are designed to defeat them. Now, this kind of resistance can be due to a number of factors; including human impact and/or microbial evolution.

In this Forum, you are to discuss your stance on human's responsibility on Microbial Resistance to Drugs. What are some misconceptions you have about antibiotic resistance? How is that microbes are able to survive against a drug that once "killed" them? What role do you think you play in contributing to and/or fighting against microbial resistance to drugs (or cleaning agents)? Are we to blame for creating "Superbugs"? What do you think will happen in the future if we continue to inadvertently create more "Superbugs"? How do you as an individual help control the production of antibiotic resistant microorganisms?
