MHR 4440 – Social Entrepreneurship
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Every student will have an opportunity to share with the class what he/she has learned on a social enterprise topic of their choice. The topic has to be approved by the professor. Topics may include expansions of the topic to be covered in class, very well-articulated examples of social enterprises, best practices, interview of a social entrepreneur or non-profit leader, etc. The student will perform the research to produce the paper per the following guidelines DELIVERABLES: A two- pages paper. GUIDELINES Please identify a Social Entrepreneurship topic that you have an interest in. Your assignment is to research and prepare a two-page paper on the selected topic. Your research should include a description of the topic, its benefit (i.e. what is the social issue that this item is solving), lessons learned, real life examples that are applicable, and future applicability of the lessons learned, all related to Social Entrepreneurship.
The two-page summary must address all the following elements:
a. Demonstrated command of topic; b. Understanding of the main lessons shared in the paper; c. Expand to include real life examples; d. Future applications of the lessons learned; e. Reader’s perspective on how the paper arrived to findings (if applicable); f. Flow: easy to read, vocabulary level according to level of the class, intro, main body and
conclusions.
The source of information for your individual project should be a credible source. In the event that you have no access to databases where you can find them, use credible sources of information like Business and Management journals and online resources like Harvard Business Review. Also, using Internet searches you will probably find papers from universities and / or conferences. I would just recommend to stay away from newspapers, and mainstream magazines (like Time, etc).
