Introduction:

The literature is replete with information that HIS are complex and that healthcare is a complex system. However, implementation of HIS creates simplicity out of the complex structures and processes in our clinical and business management.

Tasks:

· Describe what HIS architecture is and why healthcare administrators need to understand HIT/HIS architecture.

· Discuss the architecture of enterprise hospital information system (EHIS) and explore its advantages and disadvantages.

· Describe and discuss how HIS architecture can be analyzed.

Administrative and Financial System Application

Introduction:

Healthcare managers and administrators are exposed to both clinical and business processes. It is almost impossible to achieve competency in business structures and processes, especially if one does not have the clinical background or have limited experience and knowledge of interdepartmental processes as well as external influences such as regulations, standards, etc. An administrative or management system would be most helpful to navigate a complex hospital or integrated healthcare system.

Tasks:

· Describe and discuss management/administrative and financial system applications.

· Discuss potential costs of an IT system adoption of administrative/management systems.

· Provide an example of analytics for administrative/management applications.

· Identify and discuss the trends, barriers, and challenges in adopting an administrative/management application.
