Introduction:

The literature is replete with information that HIS are complex and that healthcare is a complex system. However, implementation of HIS creates simplicity out of the complex structures and processes in our clinical and business management. One of the most important and widely acquired applications in the HIS is the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Tasks:

· Describe what an EHR application is.

· Discuss the purposes of implementing an EHR application.

· Discuss the cost of acquiring and implementing an EHR application.

· Describe the major steps in implementing an EHR application.

· Identify at least four major causes of failures in acquiring an EHR application.

· Identify and describe the major components of HIPAA standards specific to an EHR application.

Health Information Technology Regulations and Standards

Introduction:

Major health information technology (HIT) regulations aim to ensure privacy and confidentiality of patient health information. In this assignment, you will be asked to research your state privacy laws and standards specific to patient health information.

Tasks:

· Describe and discuss your state’s privacy laws that are specific to HIT.

· Compare and contrast your state’s privacy laws against HIPAA privacy rules.

· Develop and present a one- or two-page sample policy in ensuring privacy and confidentiality of patient health information when adopting an HIT. Your policy must cover:
