Introduction

Inpatient rehabilitation refers to therapy and physician services that one receives while staying at the hospital. On the other hand, the inpatient health facility is known is a health care facility that offers an intensive rehabilitation services and program to the inpatients. Moreover the inpatient rehabilitation offers skilled nursing care to inpatients throughout or on 24/7 basis. Provision of healthcare services to inpatients in the inpatient facility is done under the supervision of the doctor and by the registered professional nurses. The inpatient rehabilitation is basically for those patients that need interdisciplinary and intensive rehabilitation services. These inpatient programs helps in improving and promoting highest degree of independence of the patients.

Technological advancement trend

Cloud computing is one of the technological advancement experienced in the inpatient healthcare facility. This technology has helped in changing the face of the inpatient rehabilitation settings because of it enhance innovative and rapid response to any arising technologies. Therefore, with the help of the cloud computing, this helped nurses, doctors, and physicians to adopt digital mode of keeping data(Rogders, 2012). Moreover, if offers control access to the hospitals and health networks to share the PHI and various data.

In addition, technological advancements increases the patient engagement that is in the inpatient healthcare settings the use of the medical apps, smartphones and wearable devices. These technologies helped in giving inpatients chance to engage with the nurses, doctors, and physicians. Moreover, the health apps and plans helped in tracking or generating the personal information or data of a patient. In short the new technologies will aid in encouraging patient to have healthy lifestyle thus shifting the responsibilities from the physician to an individual.

Additionally, technology advancement introduced Telehealth technology. This patient allowed the inpatients and physician to connect easily. That is, while in hospital it will be helpful in connecting with the nurse or doctors at a real-time. Therefore, Telehealth ensure there is patient-doctor interaction that is effective when a patient is receiving medication services at hospital. There is an increased in the number of employers who are advocating for the Telehealth services

Cont.….

Moreover, inpatient rehabilitation settings are introducing telemedicine since they lower the cost and also it is so much convenient to the workers (patients). That is, as a patient who stays at the hospital receiving physician and therapy services he or she will be in a position to spend less time visiting offices of nurses, doctors or physician because of the routine diseases(Brown, 2013). Telemedicine will also helping in addressing the case of shortage of doctors that is affecting most of the inpatient rehabilitation settings. This purpose has made Telehealth technology to become a growing trend.

Furthermore, 3D technology is another trend that has impacted the inpatient rehabilitation settings. That is, the 3D printing aids in playing a critical in the technology advancement. Nurses, doctors, and any other physician utilizes 3D printing technology to help in decreasing the risks that faces inpatients while staying at the hospital. Moreover, this technology helps in revolutionizing the manufacture of medical devices and surgical tools.

Conti….

Additionally, there is internet of the medical things that is firmly established in the inpatient health settings. Healthcare setting is one aspect from many aspects of life that embrace internet of medical things. This inpatient setting adopted expensive and large equipment such as CT and MRI scanners that are monitored by manufacturers on how the monitor the patients’ heart rate(Lorenzetti, 2015). Introduction of the MRI and CT scanners had a great impact to the evaluation of health status of a patient.

Cont..

Moreover there are new technologies such as Google glasses, wearable devices etc. that are creating new avenues that helps acquiring the real time update concerning the health of inpatients. Additionally, since the new devices such a Fitbit is utilized by the physician to monitor the crucial parameters of a patient such as heartbeat, the level of activities on the real time basis and offering advice as per the results after analysis. In addition, with the Google glasses they help the physicians to also be in a position to help the patient while at remote place since they can connect with personnel who are the field and offer the required advice

Medical insurance trend

Health insurance refers to an insurance coverage that pays the surgical and medical expenses that are incurred by the insured. Currently, this trend helps in reimbursing the insured for the costs incurred from injury or illness or else paying the cost the healthcare provider of the inpatient directly. Ones the medical insurance is introduce will lead to increase in the cost of the premiums that offered employer. In addition, health insurance will lead to an increased in the cost of premiums on the exchanges.

Cont.….

Moreover, there is the rising cost of the prescription drugs specifically brand name pharmaceuticals which has become the major driver of the rising cost of care in the inpatient settings in 2017. Additionally, it is anticipated that entire cost of the drugs to workers who are aged 65 years to grow by the 11.6%. The cost of the medical expenses will shift away from the co-insurance to the drugs consumers since insurers will have limited their formularies. Therefore, in 2017 the medical expenses are expected to rise because prescription drugs prices is seen as the big first expenses experienced

Conti….

Because of increased cost of the medicine, the employers will increase out of pocket (OOP) to help in catering the medical inflation . According to survey it shows that 80% of the employers have recognized or cited that drugs is the key cost driver. For instance, among three employers, one will cut the prescription benefits while non-formulary list will expand or grow substantially. Therefore, as the employers will proceed cutting the benefits while increasing an out of pocket costs will cause the rate of inflation to rise by 5%.

Talent shortages

According to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) it projected that in the United States, there will be a shortage of approximate 90,000 physicians in the next ten years. Additionally, it will not only be that we don’t have or there less number of physicians in the inpatient rehabilitation settings to make sure that all patients are attended and also making sure they received a good quality of the care making health cost become so expensive

Cont.…

That is, shortages of physicians both non-clinical and clinical is so much troubling because the hiring process needs so much money. In short, higher cost of about makes it hard for the inpatient rehabilitation settings to employ the competent well qualified personnel thus threatening the quality of care offered to the inpatients. Therefore, shortages of physicians will not only lead to low quality of care but also make medication services and cost of labour be expensive.

Transition from the volume-based to volume-based healthcare

Currently, the volume-based model of the health care facilities concentrates on the quantity over the quality. That is, it believed that the more patients are attended, tests and procedures administered the more money the healthcare will be anticipated to make. Moreover, transition to the value-based approach will truly make inpatients the center of the healthcare facility via making the key influencer of revenues received by the health provider. For example, if the quality of care does not satisfy given standards, then the healthcare provided will face financial consequences and penalties from the Medicaid and Medicare.

Cont.….

This transition has brought a significant change in approach of the inpatient settings. That is, this trend of transition has put the patient at the center of the health care. The key objective is to ensure that there is an improvement in patient engagement satisfaction scores. Additionally, since almost everything in inpatient setting is becoming digital, data security is among the trends in healthcare industry(Braverman, 2016). That is, the patent privacy issues has and will remain be in the mind of the patients, health care provided, and payers. Understanding the patient’s privacy issues have helped in avoiding violating HIPAA which may have negative impact in health care setting.

Issues associated with these trends as per analysis

The technological advancements will be costly to implement thus making it costly to introduce new technologies in the healthcare settings. On other hand, technological advancements like use of the wearable tracking devices have been used as the tracking devices to aid in monitoring the physical activities, calorie consumption etc. This helped in improving the overall performance of the entire inpatient settings enhancing better and effective health care. In conclusion, Telehealth, Google glasses , wearable devices have improved the effectiveness of the inpatient settings.

Cont. ..

When we consider the health insurance, it will help in catering for unexpected medical expenses since health insurance has helped in saving time and money.

Moreover, medical insurance helped in reducing cost incurred during medication(Rogders, 2012).

On the other hand, the health costs will increase or rise because the government will increase tax rates so that it can be in a position to cater for people’s medication services.

Cont.

In addition, the medical insurance have made people to pay higher premiums. That is, since insurance companies can offer wide ranges of the benefits to the people. Therefore, this had led the premiums to increase to the most people who already owned a medical insurance.

In conclusion, the health trends in the inpatient rehabilitation settings have number of benefits that helps in improving an overall performance of the inpatient settings. Moreover, theses trends also have negative impact to quality of care, medication costs etc.
