Inpatient rehabilitation trends
Currently, in the healthcare industry specifically in the inpatient rehabilitation setting, there is one trend that is based on the technological advancements into the inpatient setting. We have new technologies such as Google glasses, wearable devices etc. that are creating new avenues that helps acquiring the real time update concerning the health of inpatient. Additionally, because of the new devices such a Fitbit is utilized by the physician to monitor the crucial parameters of a patient such as heartbeat, the level of activities on the real time basis and offering advice as per the results after analysis (Richins, 2015). In addition, with the Google glasses they help the physicians to also be in a position to help the patient while at remote place since they can connect with personnel who are the field and offer the required advice. Therefore, since this technology will become popular in the future, this will be a mandatory for the physicians to train themselves on how to use these new devices and systems. Furthermore, these devices will not only aid patients in being connected at real time with the physician but will also help them to be prepared for the coming future. Additionally, there is internet of the medical things that is firmly established in the inpatient health settings. Healthcare setting is one aspect from many aspects of life that embrace internet of medical things. This inpatient setting adopted expensive and large equipment such as CT and MRI scanners that are monitored by manufacturers on how the monitor the patients’ heart rate (Richins, 2015). Therefore, the technology related trend has changed the operations, process, and effectiveness of the patient care offered by the inpatient rehabilitation facility or setting.
Additionally, there is this trends that says, Get Care where and when it convenient”. That is, since we have health apps that came into this year they have helped people in accessing medications at their own convenient time.
Moreover, we have the medical insurance that helps in covering patient’s bills. In previous decades, people have paying in cash but with introduction of the medical insurance this aided in saving money and time that can help in catering for unknown times that one can get sick.
Impact of trend in inpatient rehabilitation
In all industries, technology play a critical or crucial role in ensuring there are improvements in the healthcare. That is, it is the major driving force in improvements found in the inpatient rehabilitation facility. Technology advancement in the inpatient healthcare setting has helped in enhancing better and more accessible treatment. With new devices and systems for monitoring the patient’s care has helped the overall performance of inpatient rehabilitation setting to improve. Additionally, technology helped in opening up avenues of research and exploration that helped the healthcare to be more effective and driven compared to those days before. Furthermore, the technology advancement trends aided in improving efficient and care, that is, technology has made the patient’s care to be more reliable and safer in the most applications (System, 2011). Additionally, the fact is, nurse and doctors that are working on the frontline to achieve their main objective of helping patients recover and return to the normal health status, have been enhanced through use of the hand-held devices that helped in recording the important real-time data of the patient and later sharing that recorded information instantly to update the medical history of patient to help in knowing the current previous health status of a patient. Moreover, the technology helps in enhancing the disease and healthcare control. That is, the healthcare specialists and researcher were able to use the technology to track, utilize, and retrieve important information that will help in fighting to monitor a certain diseases ad also providing the best healthcare results to control identified disease. On other hand, this technology has negative impacts, such as, it will costly to implement this technologies within inpatient rehabilitation setting. Moreover, the cost of training physicians on how use new technologies will high plus the discovered devices and system might be prone to failure especially in the moment when they are highly needed in monitoring the health status of a patient, thus eventually causing patient’s death. Additionally, health insurance resulted in increase in medication services that ultimately made the respective government to increase tax rates. Therefore, increase in in tax rates resulted to rise in medication costs making the people without medical insurance face difficulties in meeting medication needs,
Capitalizing and mitigating the negative impact of the trend
It is evident, in the past decades inpatient rehabilitation settings were spending a lot of money and time in assessing the causes if diseases and physically monitoring the health status of the patient. In addition, with introduction of new technologies in the inpatient settings helped in improving the performance of the health care industry and reducing the cost associated with patient’s disease assessment process. Therefore, after reduction of the costs, the saved funds may or have been utilized to cater for others issues in the inpatient setting thus making the performance of healthcare setting to improve (Brown & Brown, 2011). Therefore, with introduction helped in increasing profits in the inpatient rehabilitation settings which encouraged improved healthcare services and facilities. Medical insurance can help in saving time and money that will cater for unexpected sicknesses and any other medication needs or facilities. On the other, to reduce the negative of technology advancement trend, such increased costs, high cost of implementing new technologies, and technical and operation difficulties of new devices and systems introduced in inpatient settings. For example, to reduce or shun failure of the introduced systems and devices, the inpatient rehabilitation center will be required to hire competent personnel that will help in taking care of the system and monitoring their performance regularly (Brown & Brown, 2011). Additionally, before new technologies are implemented in the inpatient healthcare settings they should be scrutinized and assessed completely before commencing using the introduced systems or devices to monitor healthcare of the patients.
