Proposed Senior Project Title:

“A critical evaluation of the credit system with specific reference to Bank Seigniorage.”

1. What objectives do you wish to achieve through the completion of the Senior Project?

· To gain a further and deeper understanding of the credit system and how it functions

· To be able to relate the function of the credit system to financial events of present day

· To understand in detail bank seigniorage and the way in which cash travels freely across borders with particular reference to the Eurozone.

2. What work is proposed to achieve the objectives stated above? (Define the work you have specifically in mind: will you need to develop a literature review? if your work is empirically based will developing a section on methodology be required?)

· Work is empirically based and draws upon academic sources

· Also uses data to support key findings and ideas

· Developing a methodology to prove thesis will be required for a more accurate evaluation of the credit system

· Reference to Italian banking system and the way in which the Italian economy operates within the Eurozone system as a whole.

3. Describe any primary and/or secondary resources you intend to make use of in your research. (Will you be able to access these easily?)

· Material from the Eurozone and the European banking system will be drawn upon and given substantial reference to as a primary case study

· No primary sources will be necessary and first hand material is not of much relevance or use to this project

· Seigniorage income within the ECB and its role

· Material and sources from information from central banks and financial institutions e.g. ECB/Bank of England etc
