Abstract

Commanding Officer, Patrol Squadron Thirty (VP-30) is an aviation training command. Their main purposed is to provide the fleet with well-trained pilots and non-flight pilots. VP-30 is a very intricate organization and in order to ensure everything is properly documented, the Administration Department is an important branch. The primary mission of the Administrative Department’s is to provide administrative support to the squadron, allowing them to focus on their primary mission as instructors, students, and maintenance and air crews. A decision has been made to replace the military administrative billets with contractors. This will provide continuity and designed to provide customer service at less expensive cost. There have been numerous complaints about the customer service in recent months. Additional duties have been absorbed by the Administration Department due to the downsizing of Personnel Support Detachments (PSD). PSDs at every naval installation to provide Navy men and women with personnel, disbursing, and educational development services. The closure has caused a rippling affect that has placed more administrative duties back on the parent command. The fear is that the contractors lack the knowledge to complete their tasks. There will be several different initiatives addressed in the essay to improve customer service, sustainability, and measure the department’s success.
