MGT 370 – Management Skills Development Film Analysis Paper and Presentation

Film Analysis Description For this project, your group will analyze a film from the list provided in class through using hat you learned from the course. A film sign-up list will be provided during a class session.

In this analysis paper the group will identify ten different movie scenes from their film choice. How long is a film scene? It is approximately 3-minutes long. The group must briefly summarize (1-2 sentences!) each scene (include each scene frame time – i.e. five minutes and 30-seconds into the film) and then apply TWO course concepts for each of the 10 film scenes. The concepts should come from a minimum of five separate textbook chapters already covered in the course (you cannot use chapters we have not covered). Concepts used cannot be duplicated throughout the paper. For example, if you apply Emotional Intelligence for one scene, you may not use it (or a sub-set of it) for a different scene.

The analysis is not a synopsis of the film’s plot or a film review. The group should apply, in detail, the concepts as they relate to the film scene and answer how AND why the group believes that the concepts relate to that particular film scene. Remember to provide an APA 6 edition in-text citation for each of the concepts applied from the textbook. The group should not define the concepts being applied to the film scene. For example, do not state, “The concept of the sensitive line refers to the point in which individuals become defensive and protective…” instead state/describe HOW the concept applies to the scene in the film. Remember to review the course syllabus for written assignment paper format (font, spacing, and so on). Questions? —see the professor.

PAPER

➢ Title page – with student names, date, course name, and professor name ➢ Table of contents – Use a formal format ➢ Introduction page – brief summary of the film being analyzed ➢ 10 film scenes – (only one page per scene) – add a sub-title that describes the scene at the top of each page along with the time-stamp for the scene ➢ Reflection pages – each group member will write a one-page reflection on what they learned

from watching the film using a management development skills perspective (each group member should place her/his name as the sub-heading for her/his reflection page)

➢ Conclusion page – brief summary of the concepts applied to the film ➢ References page (at a minimum the group should list the textbook and the film (in APA 6e

format) ➢ Group member list – this is a list of what each group member contributed to the paper and

should be on a separate page at the end of the paper

DECK – Each group member must participate in the 10-minute presentation.
