Module 5: Me as a Leader: Developing a Philosophy of Leadership Statement Guidelines and Rubric

Overview: After completing this module’s lesson, you should be familiar with the third function of management: leading. In this assignment, you will have the opportunity to reflect on this concept and consider how it will influence your approach to leadership and how you will motivate, communicate, and lead effective teams as you write a personal philosophy of leadership. You will walk away from this module with an actual deliverable that will be useful to you in your future job search and career development. Directions: To successfully complete this assignment, follow these steps. First, complete the leadership style self-assessment from Chapter 15 in the textbook (MindTap) or this Mind Tools survey: ​How Good Are Your Leadership Skills? Then write a short paper including the following elements:

Part I: In about a paragraph, explain how your view of management vs. leadership has changed from the beginning of this course. Part II: In about a page, write a Philosophy of Leadership Statement. Be sure to address the following critical elements:

● Identify your leadership style, as derived from the self-assessment you completed ● Reflect on what you have learned about yourself that makes you a great team leader or a leader that can manage teams ● Describe what your approach to motivating employees will be and how you will know what motivates them ● Describe how you will communicate difficult messages to employees

Note: ​After receiving feedback on this assignment, you are encouraged to integrate any changes you would like to incorporate and then share your Philosophy of Leadership Statement (Part II of this assignment) in a professional online platform such as a LinkedIn profile or personal website or ePortfolio. Showcasing and applying what you are learning in your business classes in a professional platform will help you build your professional network, which will further help you develop your personal leadership style. Guidelines for Submission:​ Your short paper submission should be two pages in length, double-spaced, in a 12-point font. Any references should be cited in APA style.
