Task description:
You work for a newly formed project management consulting firm specialising in digital marketing and IT platforms for small to medium enterprises. Over the last five years you have taken on and completed some exciting and successful projects for clients and are starting to gain a reputation in industry for providing innovative and creative client solutions. Your CEO has asked your team to respond and competitively bid for the following tender by developing a response to a Request for Proposal (RFP) business report and a presentation of the bid to the Board of your firm.
You are responding to a RFP for a local regional food /grocery and bakery store in NSW. The store is located in Moama, a town of 6,500 residents which borders Echuca, Victoria. Echuca has a population of 21,500 and is expanding at 5-7% per annum. Moama is in the Murray River Tourism district and tourism is its biggest economic sector with a worth $250 million per annum. Over 60% of the permanent population are over 55 years of age with medium to high disposable income. A growing number of people are retiring in the region after working and living in major cities in Australia as they are attracted to an affordable lifestyle. Median property prices are currently around 30-40% lower than comparable urban areas in Australia, making the area an attractive place to live, retire and holiday. There is a joint NSW and Victorian government $1 billion dollar bridge project and infrastructure underway which is planning to be completed by 2022. Your client’s business is located just 750 metres from the exit on the NSW border, just 2 hours and 40 minutes from Melbourne.
The client is a family owned business with a good reputation in the local community with a value proposition for fresh predominantly locally sourced produce and higher quality service than its major competitors. Over the last 5 years the client has refurbished the store to include fresher products, including organic and a traditional style bakery with gluten free products with a small café with eat in and takeaway services.
The major competitors of the client with physical stores and strong on-line presence are Woolworths, Aldi, Coles, and IGA. In addition, there are some small local stores.
Growth of local population and increase in events and tourism activities in the region has led to more aggressive competitions between large retailers and small operators, resulting in diminished sales, loss of profits and closure of some small businesses.
Challenge:
Create an integrated e-commerce on-line platform to compete on quality, convenience and service (and not just price, and increase market share (the dominant strategy of the large competitors).
The client is an established retailer in the grocery and bakery shopping niche. Their main goal is to offer good quality locally sourced produce to their customers. Simultaneously, they wish to encourage their customers to adopt a lifestyle with healthy eating habits. The client wants customers to adhere to the go-green movement and reduce wastage of precious resources. The client’s estimate proposal is worth around $150 to $200K.
Currently the store has a basic web site with minimal functionality and visibility for current and potential customers. Although they have visibility and patronage from local residents in order to sustain their business and grow the client base and wants to target the increasing tourist customer who attends festivals during holidays and most weekends.
The objective is to develop an Omni-Channel digital Marketing platform (in-store, web based, online, mobile) to improve customer experience.
Mobile apps as well as a web site to enable improvised order management. The client is worried about delayed delivery and wants a smooth delivery process. The client wants dual options where customers can get home delivered orders at their doorstep or click and collect pickup from the nearby store.
Some possible functionalities include SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). social media integration with Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and WeChat, loyalty programs, and specials.
As a project management firm, you are responding to an RFP to submit in a bid for this contract. It is expected that five other firms are submitting bids for this project. The pricing from the other firms are between $155,000 to $250,000 with time plans to complete ranging from 6 months to 12 months. Its your decision whether it is a fixed-priced contract or cost-reimbursement contract. Also the details of a baseline time plan is entirely your decision.
