1. Are you aware of the hierarchical system throughout the organization and how functions?
I am aware of the hierarchical system throughout the organization and how it functions. Coach L is at the top of the “food chain” followed by his assistants, Coach Caputo, Coach Fish, and Coach Brunt. At the bottom of the food chain is the Director of Operations, Lamont Franklin. Coach L and his staff is charge of running practices, player development, and recruiting. On the other hand, Lamont Franklin is in charge of the behind the scenes stuff, such as booking flights for games, booking hotels, and ordering gear from the Adidas Catalog.
2. Do you see any issue pertaining to the way the organization runs as a team?
I think the main issue comes from the top, particularly Coach L. It is apparent that he sets the culture of the team. He seems disinterested in trying to get to know the managers, a vital part of the program. He doesn’t even say simple things, such as hello. This leads to the rest of the staff and the players taking us for granted. I think it also leads for players to take other things for granted. For example, the players are always complaining that they do not get enough gear. However, they have a shoe compartment in their locker that is overflowing with shoes. They also receive various articles of clothing, ranging from shorts to jackets to hats to sweatshirts.
3. Do you believe that each member of the organization is treated fairly and satisfied with their role? And if not why?
I believe that the managers are not treated fairly and could definitely be appreciated more by the coaching staff. I think that if Coach L changed the culture around the team to be more of a family feeling, we would be appreciated and treated better. I definitely believe that many managers are unsatisfied with their current situation.
4. In your current position what motivates you to go the extra mile? Is there anything that would make you more motivated?
Making relationships with the players makes me go the extra mile. I would definitely be more motivated if the Coaches showed more appreciation towards the managers.
5. From your first practice, how has your attitude of your current role been changed as a result of the positive or negative experiences of your work?
I went from loving going to practice to dreading practice in a sense because it became apparent that the coaches had little to no appreciation for our efforts to help the program.
6. What would you like to see change regarding the organizational structure?
I don’t think that the organizational structure needs to change, per say. I think that the culture within the organization needs to change.
7. How do you think coach L motivates the team and program to get better? Does it work?
He motivates the team and program to get better by never being satisfied with being just good. He wants to be great. I think this really pushes the players to work hard during practice and in the film room.
8. Anything else you want to say regarding your position and the program as a whole?

1. Are you aware of the hierarchical system throughout the organization and how functions?
Honestly, no the program seems chaotic with random people doing random jobs. Coach L has the most power though, he is very respected.
2. Do you see any issue pertaining to the way the organization runs as a team?
The coaches and player ops heads do not treat the program like it is D1. No one is held accountable for anything, practices are mostly laid back which reflects on the team’s performance.
3. Do you believe that each member of the organization is treated fairly and satisfied with their role? And if not why?
I know the managers are not happy with their position on the team. The coaches do not know any of their names, they are barely acknowledged. They get no sort of compensation even though without them the practices would barely function. They do the little things that people take for granted but are shown no appreciation or return of any kind. Why give up 20-25 hours a week for nothing, there is no good reason to do it at this point besides as a resume builder.
4. In your current position what motivates you to go the extra mile? Is there anything that would make you more motivated?
The only thing that motivates me to keep showing up is I do not like quitting something I started. Any form of compensation would keep me motivated. Especially gear, and an appreciation from players and coaches where I feel like I am actually a part of the team and not wasting time.
5. From your first practice, how has your attitude of your current role been changed as a result of the positive or negative experiences of your work?
I was very into the program in the beginning. I even look forward to practices and was willing to do any extra task asked of me. No I dread going to practice even once a week because I know I am just wasting my time.
6. What would you like to see change regarding the organizational structure?
More gear, appreciation, and the feeling like I am actually there to the staff and players.
7. How do you think coach L motivates the team and program to get better? Does it work?
If I am honest, I cannot think of a single way he motivates the team. Only motivation he has is for one of the GA’s to give him water every 5 minutes that is room temperature and half full. Then once the person gives him the water he does not even look at them and does not even think about saying thank you.
8. Anything else you want to say regarding your position and the program as a whole?
No.

1. Are you aware of the hierarchical system throughout the organization and how functions?
yes
2. Do you see any issue pertaining to the way the organization runs as a team?
It is very secluded. Lack of communication to the lower tiers of the hierarchial system
3. Do you believe that each member of the organization is treated fairly and satisfied with their role? And if not why?
I do not. I know the managers for the most part are not satisfied with the lack of respect they get. Asked for a lot, and are generally ignored by players and coaches. Coaches seem to be content.
4. In your current position what motivates you to go the extra mile? Is there anything that would make you more motivated?
Impressing the staff motivates me, but the lack of them showing appreciativeness lessens that.
5. From your first practice, how has your attitude of your current role been changed as a result of the positive or negative experiences of your work?
I was excited, intrigued, and thought I really wanted to work my way up when I began. I now dread it, and do not care for it. I also have become less of a fan of our basketball team.
6. What would you like to see change regarding the organizational structure?
Communication and togetherness
7. How do you think coach L motivates the team and program to get better? Does it work?
Coach L is a good coach but I honestly think he has trouble connecting to some of his players. He is very old school. In a way, this helps because of his experience.

Unfortunately, did not interview players formally but found a great quote from his media availability after he declared for the draft
“My teammates, you know, I love these guys I love coach L, and to say those words in such little time speaks volume on how this team is and how the assistant coaches and coaches are”
