Personal Reflection

The first step to personal and professional development is reflecting. To begin this process, reflect on your personal values and development. In your personal reflection, be sure to:

· Describe your value system, explaining how your value system impacts your decision making and behavior.

· Describe your personal development over about the past five to 10 years, detailing specific achievements or growth. As you reflect on your personal development, you might consider how you have developed specific characteristics or skills, or you might consider how you have expanded your knowledge in a particular area.

Professional Reflection

In this section, reflect on your professional development and career aspirations. Start by finding a job description for a job you might like to obtain in the next three to five years. If you need assistance finding job listings, you can refer to the “Recommended Job Boards” section of the SNHU Career website, which is linked in the Supporting Materials section of the Project Instructions.

Once you find a job you would like to pursue in the future, reflect on your personal and professional abilities. Do they match the job description you found? Think about where you meet the job requirements, as well as areas where you could improve. In your professional reflection, be sure to:

· Describe the specific job you would like to have in the future. What interests you about this position?

· Describe the role you usually take on a team. How does this behavior relate to this specific job description?

· Describe the characteristics of an effective team contributor that you possess. Identify any skills you could improve upon. Be sure to explain how these characteristics relate to the specific job description. Remember that there is always room for improvement as you look to grow and develop as a professional.

Developmental Goals

In this section, create personal and professional SMART goals to promote your development. Use your personal and professional reflections to develop your goals. Be sure to address the following:

· Create a personal development SMART goal for your individual growth. As you write your goal, think about your personal ambitions and what provides you with a sense of fulfillment and meaning.

· Create a professional development SMART goal for your growth as a strong team contributor. Be sure to explain how this goal will support positive team dynamics and productivity. As you write your goal, consider the areas you listed in your reflections as opportunities for growth.

· Explain how your personal and professional goals work together and match the job description you found.
