What are your personal examples of "Influence tactics" at the workplace or in your daily life?

Write a small paragraph for each influence tactic. Use your own words, since it will be checked by Turnitin.

· Rational Persuasion - The use of logical arguments and hard facts to show the target that the request is a worthwhile one

Ex: Research found that students tend to increase 10% their exam score when they have a study partner! Would you help me?

· Consultation - Asking the target to participate in deciding how to carry out a request

Ex: Professor,, we really don’t know how to prepare the exam 3 effectively, could you please let us know.. How to...?

· Inspirational appeals - A tactic designed to appeal to the target’s values and ideals

Ex: Helping me to complete this study guide summary will SAVE MY LIFE!!

· Collaboration - Making it easier for the target to complete the request

Ex: We could complete the exam 3 summary sheet easily and quickly if you join our study group

· Ingratiation - The use of favors, complements, or friendly behavior to make the target feel better about the influencer

Ex: You are the smartest person among our team members. I need your help! Could you show me your exam 3 summary?

· Personal Appeals - When the requestor asks for something on the basis of friendship or loyalty

Ex: Can you show me your exam 3 summary? Dude! You are my friend!

· Exchange - Used when the requestor offers a reward or resources in exchange for performing a request

Ex: Can you show me your exam 3 summary? Then, I will show you mine when we prepare exam 3.

· Apprising - When the requestor clearly explains why performing the request will benefit the target personally

Ex: Can you show me your exam 3 summary? You know what? It is actually beneficial for you because I can double check if you made any mistakes when I study

· Pressure - The use of coercive power through threats and demands

Ex: If you are not helping me out, I’m going to give you zero point when we do a peer-review

· Coalitions – Enlisting other people to help influence the target

Ex: Jason, Arielle and Josh all agreed to work online only, you should agree with this method

What's your takeaway of learning Organizational behavior this semester? (a short paragraph about 5-6 sentences is ok)
