Final Project Operations Plan

As we have seen throughout the course, Operations Management is an important part of all
successful businesses. The techniques of Operations Management apply throughout the world to
virtually all productive enterprises.
For our final project your group will select an existing Canadian company from any of the core
disciplines we have discussed (Health Care, Retail, Services, Construction, or Manufacturing).
Using the information you have learned throughout the semester AND outside research, create a
comprehensive operations plan for your chosen business focusing on the primary factors of Goods
and Service design, Quality, Process and Capacity, Location, Layout, Scheduling and Sequencing, and
Inventory Management.
Project Instructions: Part A: Written Report (75% of the project mark)

1 Using the 6 steps for designing goods and services,
analyze how your selected business puts together its
product/service offering

Exhibit 6.1 page 110 for

2 Use the Product-Process Matrix and Service
Positioning Matrix to determine what you feel to be
the best process solution for your company (Be sure
to justify your answer). Compare your findings to
what the company is currently doing. Do you agree
or disagree?
3 Describe where the company is located? What are
the advantages and disadvantages to this location?
Do you agree with their location? Explain why you
feel that way. If you disagree with the location
suggest a more suitable spot and explain you
reasoning.
4 Answer the 6 key questions that need to be address
for successful workplace layout as they pertain to
your business.

5 What type of inventory system do you feel your
company uses? If you agree this is the best inventory
solution for your company explain why, if you
disagree then suggest an alternative method and
explain your opinion.

Written Document Specifications:
All outside research must be cited using APA standards (Click here to review these rules) – plagiarism will be treated very seriously and could result in a zero grade
Submissions must be typed and submitted to FOL (emailed submissions will not be accepted)
Submissions must be in .doc or .docx format
Reports are to be double spaced using a font size of 12
Reports must include a cover page including o Name of the company you are analyzing o All group members names

Project Instructions: Part B: Presentation (25% of the project mark)
Prepare a 5 to 7 minute presentation about your findings. Your presentation should include
a powerpoint presentation of no more than 10 slides (excluding title).
The presentations will be marked on the following rubric:
